LafargeHolcim chooses Wialon for needs of clients for Swiss Quality in Uganda
The project for LafargeHolcim was implemented in 3 stages that cover 3 main needs:
Route planning
The client desired to track the vehicles which transport cement to construction sites. Also, he wanted to control the presence of units on the route at any time.
Vehicle inspection
LafargeHolcim headquarters have strict necessities about the vehicles. They include technical condition, dimensions, compartments for cement transportation and drivers. However, the company does not own its fleet. As such, it works through contractors, both on a long-term basis and on one occasion.
LafargeHolcim specialists must check the condition of vehicles every workday. Before Wialon, the whole check-and-approval procedure was on paper. At that time, an inspector had to tick boxes in the list of requirements to approve or disapprove a driver and vehicle. Indeed, a lot of paperwork.
Driver behaviour monitoring
Also, the construction company needed a tool to control driving style to enhance road safety.
Solution
The solution of Gurtam partner in Uganda consists of the following elements :
- route control module in Wialon
- customized mobile application
- KP1 devices from SmartWitness
When delivering cement to construction sites, vehicles followed a similar route every day. In this case, “Routes” module in Wialon seemed, by all accounts, to be an advantageous idea. Here, the user can create an infinite number of routes and assign any number of vehicles to them. Notifications control the presence of a unit on the route. He can set schedules and mark delivery points as geofences.
Inspectors can check all the boxes and send the approval or disapproval status directly to Wialon. Once Wialon receives it, a custom event for the unit is created. Inspectors can see unticked boxes in “Violations” report in Wialon Hosting.
KP1 devices from SmartWitness and cameras installed in the truck cabin will monitor driver behaviour. At this stage, our partner faced a bitter reality of Uganda. Nobody knows when 3G coverage changes into 2G and whether cameras work at all. However, LafargeHolcim completely agrees with that. The task is fulfilled. The devices installed in the cabin, make drivers work in a more controlled environment.
LafargeHolcim chooses Wialon for Swiss Quality : Results obtained in Uganda
LafargeHolcim come up with well-behaved contractors, automated vehicle inspection and tracking vehicles on the route. These have benefitted partners from Uganda as well. They served 1000 units at first and today they work with another 1000 units in Kenya and Tanzania. An initiative can turn out to be advantageous for all the parties involved.
